Gardeners Day and Spring Plant Sale at the Sudbury Market
May 27, 2023 @ 9:00 am - 2:00 pm
About the Event
The Sudbury Farmers Market and Sudbury Horticultural Society invite all gardeners in Greater Sudbury to join in a celebration of gardening at Science North on Saturday May 27th from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
On that day, the Society will host its annual Spring Plant Sale of hardy perennials donated by members and supporters. Since these plants will be sourced from local gardens you can be sure that they are hardy in our growing zone. Master Gardeners will be on-hand to provide gardening advice.
A variety of donated gardening books and magazines will also be available for sale, and those who are not already members of the Society will have an opportunity to learn more about the organization and purchase a membership.
A variety of gardening-related organizations and businesses will join us to provide information about their services and sell many of their products.
New IMAX Film
In 2023 VETAC celebrates 50 years of regreening in Greater Sudbury. Free shrub seedlings will be available for planting in home gardens, and local mining companies – Vale and Sudbury INO – will be distributing tree seedlings and information about their regreening initiatives. Learn more about this internationally recognized regreening program that will be featured in a new IMAX movie that will be shown locally and around the world. Jane Goodall’s “Reasons for Hope” will be showing in Science North’s IMAX theatre this spring and summer.
Free Shrub Seedlings
Gardeners will receive a free Rosa blanda (smooth wild rose / meadow rose) and/or Aronia melanocarpa (black chokeberry) from VETAC (Greater Sudbury’s Regreening Committee) for planting on their property. Join us in our regreening efforts by planting hardy native plants that support our local pollinators and wildlife.
Free Local Compost
Greater Sudbury Environmental Services will also be providing information about composting, and distributing free samples of locally produced compost.
Apply For Outdoor Booth Space
All gardening-related vendors and exhibitors are invited to apply online for OUTDOOR booth space at the event through the Sudbury Farmers Market. Market organizers will provide more details about the plans for the event to successful applicants.
