September Society General Meeting + Speaker

Guest Speaker: Junction Creek Stewardship Committee — Invasive Phragmites
At our September General Members Meeting (2PM at the Parkside Centre, doors open at 1:15PM), we’ll welcome a special presentation from the Junction Creek Stewardship Committee on the growing concern of invasive Phragmites in Sudbury.
This fast-spreading reed is one of Ontario’s most aggressive invasive plants, threatening wetlands, shorelines, trails, and green spaces. Left unmanaged, it reduces biodiversity, displaces native species, and creates costly challenges for landowners and communities alike.
During the talk, you’ll learn how to:
Identify invasive Phragmites and tell it apart from native look-alikes
Understand its impact on our local ecosystems and waterways
Discover ways to report sightings and prevent its spread
Explore practical control techniques and resources available to our community
This is an important and timely presentation for gardeners, waterfront residents, trail users, and anyone concerned about the health of our local environment. Don’t miss this chance to learn how you can be part of the solution in protecting Sudbury’s natural spaces!
