Earth Day Celebration and Launch of Climate Justice Corner

Come celebrate Earth Day and the opening of the Climate Justice Corner, Saturday, April 22, 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. at the main library (74 Mackenzie) or on-line.

1:30pm: Readings, music, poetry, & art (in the library foyer, or on FB live)
- Readings by Deanna Nebenionquit, Sophia Mathur, Adam Selalmatzidis, Tt Scott, Brydon King, and Sharon Roy.
- Poem by poet laureate Kyla Heyming, written for the occasion.
- Music by Sicousi, and sing along with the Song Sister Circle.
- Art by Sarah King Gold, painted on site.
Teaching and activity with Anishinaabek artist and educator Will Morin
- Sit in a circle while Will weaves a large dream catcher, as he shares Ojibway teachings of spring and our connections to Mother Earth.
2:30 – 3:30 PM: Indoor activities
- Kids story time & kids crafts in the children’s area.
- Open art activity: window painting to express your reflections.
- Visit the Climate Justice Corner.
1:30 – 3:30: Outdoor Earth Day activities for all ages
- Art with natural activities: make wreaths with garden vines; make/paint salt dough decorations.
- Make carrot strips to plant in your garden.
- Silkscreening activity with Myths and Mirrors: Bring a t-shirt or other fabric, and silkscreen a climate justice graphic onto it.
- Snacks.
Better Beginnings Better Futures Indigenous Led program will do the opening and closing.
As per guidance from Public Health, masks are encouraged indoor, and masks will be available at the event.
Sudbury Horticultural Society Library Donation
The Sudbury Horticultural Society has made a book donation to the Greater Sudbury Public Library in honour of this event. The book is called “The Climate Change Garden: Down to Earth Advice for Growing a Resilient Garden” by Sally Morgan and Kim Stoddart.
